As Hurricane Earl pounded it’s way along the East coast last week… and Fiona trails not too far behind…it’s a good time to ask yourself if you’re prepared for an emergency. And as KRLD’s Phyllis Smith reports…most of us are not. Actually…only about 8 percent of us are prepared for a disaster. And with September being Emergency Preparedness month…Laura Howe with the American Red Cross says the first step is to make a plan by asking some important questions like how do you evacuate your house? How would you get out of your neighborhood? Where would you meet up? Do you have an out of town contact?
Howe says after you have a plan that you share with the family… make sure you have an emergency kit packed with things like fresh batteries, a radio and a first aid kit… and also be ready with cleaning materials and copies of important papers for when you return home after the disaster.
