Football players are human beings
Sad news today about Jay Ratliff’s grandparents who were killed in a house fire last week. He will miss practice today and tomorrow to attend the funeral for Arletha and Willie Ratliff.
Willie, a World War II veteran was a double amputee and firefighters could not get him out of the house in time to try to save him. The accident occurred last Wednesday.
Looking back, Ratliff, who has a show on our radio station, somehow showed the composure to not only play a football game, but do Gregg and Gavin’s radion show Monday night. Sometimes, we forget that football players are also human beings.
In the locker room today, players refused to talk about the players only meeting that took place after the loss to the Bears. I did enjoy my discussion with Miles Austin for a half hour about New Jersey and a new show called “Boardwalk Empire” on HBO. He did go on the record and said…”We simply have to start winning games,” and that the team is not in panic mode.
