DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Happy New Year! Welcome to the first local entertainment preview of 2011! Last year was full of excellent entertainment value in North Texas, and with the Super Bowl coming to town in a few weeks — and many other exciting events — 2011 is already promising to be another awesome year. Let’s get started!

“Young Frankenstein” continues at the AT&T Performing Arts Center through Sunday, January 23. The hilarious theatrical adaptation of Mel Brooks’ classic film brings the same silliness and laughs to Mary Shelley’s story of a man and his monstrous creation. It was a huge hit on Broadway and this road production is just as lush and fun as the original. But be warned, the sometimes mature content is best suited for teenagers and older. It’s a great night at the theater and a wonderful way to experience our beautiful Winspear Opera House if you have yet to see it — just breathtaking!

Our Dallas Opera will announce its new season with a wonderful gala this Thursday evening, January 13, at the award winning Winspear Opera House. Special guests, performances and exciting sneak peeks will make it a night you won’t want to miss if you’re an opera fan!

Fort Worth is gearing up for the annual Fort Worth Stock Show beginning Friday, January 14. Look for more good fun as cowboys from all over the country meet in Cowtown for some of the best rodeoing, bull riding and exhibitions ever! People of all ages always have a great time being both entertained and educated by the talented folks who show their best!

At the movies, you can see funnymen Vince Vaughn and Kevin James in “The Dilemma.” The comedy asks the question: what would you do if you witness your best buddy’s girl in a compromising position with another guy? That’s the title ‘dilemma,’ and look for an interview with the guys later this week, from when they came to North Texas and showed some love for the TCU Horned Frogs!

Another funnyman has a new film opening this weekend. Seth Rogan co-wrote, co-produced and co-stars in “The Green Hornet.” Based on the popular 1930s radio serial, Rogen might seem an unlikely superhero. But with his faithful partner Kato (played well by Asian superstar Jay Chou), the film is lots of fun, albeit super-fast paced and sometimes hard to keep up with in 3-D! Cameron Diaz co-stars, but the real star is the awesome old school Black Beauty tricked-out car. Seth said that he is not really a car geek, but even he was bowled over by the coolness of the sleek car — complete with green headlights!

That’s this week in entertainment! See you back here next week for more inside scoops and previews. And don’t forget — Get Healthy Texas Day in Frisco is on Saturday, January 22.
