DISH (AP) – A tiny North Texas town has filed lawsuits accusing natural gas companies of polluting their air and lowering their property values.
For years Dish residents have complained about odors from gas production facilities and potential health problems from emissions, including nosebleeds.
Dish Mayor Calvin Tillman says legal action is the only option for the rural community northwest of Dallas.
The town sued a group of companies that run a network of natural gas compressors and pipelines. A town commissioner and a group of land owners also filed separate lawsuits earlier this week.
The suits claim that property owners and the town are entitled to collect monetary damages because of diminished property values.
The lawsuits target six companies, whose representatives either declined to comment or didn’t immediately return messages.
