GRAPEVINE (CBSDFW.COM) - According to the police, a driver traveling the wrong direction along Highway 121 in Grapevine caused an awful crash late Sunday night. It happened just before midnight in the southbound lanes of Highway 121, at the intersection of Grapevine Mills Parkway.
Police said that a man driving a green Chevrolet Blazer was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of the highway. He slammed into a woman driving a white Toyota. Neither vehicle was carrying additional passengers at the time of the wreck.
Both of the drivers had to be cut out from their cars. They were airlifted to local hospitals. The woman was taken to Parkland Hospital in Dallas in critical condition. The man was taken to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth in serious condition.
Authorities are still investigating the details of this incident. They are not sure where the wrong-way driver entered the highway, but a witness who was driving nearby is being questioned.
Highway 121 in Grapevine was closed for several hours early Monday morning, but all lanes of traffic have since been re-opened.
