DALLAS (AP) - A character who made plotting deals in the oil industry his passion has returned to the city where it began.

Actor Larry Hagman was joined by co-star Linda Gray on Sunday night to greet fans of the CBS television show “Dallas,” which ran from 1978-1991.

Hagman portrayed J.R. Ewing. Gray was his wife, Sue Ellen.

The Dallas Morning News reported Monday that shooting of a pilot episode, for a possible updated version of the hit show, begins this week in and around Dallas for potential pickup by a network.

Hagman and Gray spent time with fans of the show who gather weekly to watch episodes at the Texas Theatre.

Gray told fans that she loved them and “You’re what kept us on the air.”
