Rangers Make A Change In The Broadcast Booth

By Stewart McKenzie, CBS 11 News

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) – The Texas Rangers are making a mid-season change, but it has nothing do with who is on the field.

The baseball club announced that, starting on Friday night, Dave Barnett will be the new television play-by-play announcer. He will join former player Tom Grieve, who remains in the booth as a TV analyst.

John Rhadigan started the year as the television play-by-play announcer. Rhadigan will be returning to Fox Sports Southwest.

Barnett was part of the Rangers radio team. Former Major League Baseball pitcher Steve Busby will take over in the radio booth. He will team up with Eric Nadel.

The new TV team will debut Friday night on TXA 21’s Friday Night Baseball. The Rangers take on the Kansas City Royals at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Pre-game coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. on TXA 21, with Gina Miller and Mark McLemore. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

About damn time. Rhadigan was horrible.

Now, if they will just pay attention to the ballgame and not spend the whole game talking about things that have nothing to do with baseball. Also, Grieve needs to stop giving a clinic with each play . Actually, he needs to be the next to go.

  • R. Cooper

Wrong……Tom Grieve is good, but I can hardley hear him. I wish he would exert himself a little and speak up!! His voice is way too meager, this ain’t a library ya know!

  • Buzz S

Grieve is the best thing the Rangers have going for them, ball game or off-topic. There is only so much one can say about the ball game in 4 hours. He does an excellent job to keep listeners tuned in. I like everything he does for the production and the Rangers.

  • Maurice

Tom Grieve is GOOD!! I agree needs to speak up more. Has an in-depth perspective that is not available elsewhere. Radigan was terrible.

  • Don G

Excellent move. About time. Now if they can only get rid of Knox and his stupid cut aways.

  • Michael

I quit listening when they go rid or Rick Contronio.

I always looked forward to hearing john when I was on the road and staying at the hotels. I think they were wrong for letting him go. I think Dave is rather boring and they made a bad decision.
