WEATHERFORD (CBSDFW.COM) – Parker County is gearing up for its annual Peach Festival. More than 35,000 people are expected to descend on downtown Weatherford for the weekend event.
From the peach cobbler to peach ice cream, peach juleps or just plain peaches, Parker County is known for the fruit.
More than 200 vendors are expected to take part The 27th Annual Parker County Peach Festival on July 9.
Peach season began June 1 but the fruit trees have had to endure late freezes, hailstorms, high winds, and now extreme drought.
Despite the whacky Texas climate, Weatherford Chamber of Commerce president Tammy Gazzola says this year’s crop won’t disappoint.
“The peaches are smaller this year but they are juicy and they have a whole lot of flavor,” she said.
In addition to fresh peaches there will also be live music, children’s activities, arts, crafts and activity booths at the Parker County Peach Festival.
Gazzola says the annual festival is also a big boost for the Parker County economy.
