Shark Attacks Boy In Texas Gulf Coast
FORT WORTH (AP) – A 12-year-old boy is recovering from a shark attack off the Texas Gulf coast.
Nicholas Vossler had surgery on his foot in a Houston hospital and will need more surgery, but he’s okay.
Family friend Mark Constein says his family was at Matagorda Island late last week when the boy was attacked by a bull shark in less than 4-feet of water. Matagorda Island isn’t far from Corpus Christi.
The boy’s father Cecil Vossler says he saw his son being pulled into the water and Constein, of Fort Worth, fought off the shark.
They say the beach was too remote for cars and they had to rush the boy by boat to a nearby town, where a helicopter took him to a hospital.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department says shark attacks are rare, but most likely occur in the early morning and late afternoon.
