2 Teens Killed, 2 Others Injured In Fannin County Rollover

FANNIN COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) – Two teenagers are dead and two more hospitalized after a rollover crash in Leonard.

The accident happened Thursday night about 40 miles northwest of Dallas, in Fannin County.

The crash on FM 896 only involved one vehicle. According to police, the vehicle was traveling northbound when it crested a hill and became airborne.

The driver, 19-year-old Brandon Richards apparently then lost control of the vehicle and it rolled several times.

Teenagers Alexandria Hilliard, 16 of Dodd City and Zachary Kelton, 19 of Ector were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Richards and another passenger in the car, Briann Hilliard, 15 of Dodd City, were both taken by medical helicopter to Parkland Hospital in Dallas. Their conditions are unknown.

Some residents familiar with the crash area told CBS 11 News the stretch of road just north of Leonard is narrow, hilly and has been the scene of other fatal accidents over the years.

Both the Leonard Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety are investigating the crash.

The top needs to be shaved off those hills to stop the dangerous behavior. You can’t find an adult in this town who says they didn’t jump the hills when they were younger…. So how do you credibly tell your kids not to do it? A case of “do what I say, not what I do.”. It is a matter of time before the dangerous behavior kills someone driving sensibly who meets the dare-devil jumping the hill. I do hope it isn’t me.
