Traffic Accident Sends Mesquite ISD School Bus Rolling

MESQUITE (AP) – A traffic accident sent a Mesquite Independent School District school bus rolling Monday morning. Three people on the bus were taken to an area hospital to be checked for possible injuries.

Mesquite police say the small bus was clipped by another vehicle Monday morning and overturned several times, ending up on its side.

Mesquite ISD spokeswoman Laura Jobe says the accident happened on Interstate-635 as the bus was bound for an education facility in Garland.

Jobe says one special education student was on board, along with the driver and an aide.

Police say the boy and the two adults were transported to hospitals, as a precaution. Jobe says all three were alert and conscious.

The first thing that struck me while reading this article was that in a time of school board budget problems, we have a bus, a driver and an aide to transport one student. Unless they were on the way to get more students, it doesn’t seem very efficient from a dollar stand point.

The student was a special education student. They are required to provide transportation for them by federal law. They used one of those short buses.

Just seems a minivan would be more appropriate than a 16 or 20 seat bus. Also safer since the van would have seat belts which are not yet required in the buses.

We are talking Federal law, that has nothing to do with efficient. When a student is transported there must be an aid on the bus so the driver is not distracted, didn’t work to well here.

    1. 2sister says:

That’s probably because the distraction or whatever was not caused by the student. It might have been, but it seems more likely that it was caused by reckless driving.

I WOULD LIKE TO COMMENT ON THIS PAGE AND THE OTHER NEWS CHANNEL THAT COVERED THIS STORY.1ST TO THE ONES THAT SAY TRUCKER DRIVERS ARE THE WORST DRIVER AND YOU NEED TO STAY AWAY FROM THEM. 2ND FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT AUTOMATICALLY PUT THE BLAME ON THE DRIVER. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE BIG TRUCKS SINCE 1993 AND I HAVE SEEN ALOT OF PEOPLE CUT OFF THE BIG TRUCK EITHER THEY THINK ITS CUTE OR THEY JUST ASSUME THAT TRUCK DRIVER CAN STOP ON A DIME. MOST PEOPLE JUST CAN’T STAND BEING BEHIND A BIG TRUCK SO IT TAKES 3 MORE SECONDS TO GET OUT IN TRAFFIC VERSES NOT GETTING HOME AT ALL OR MAYBE MONTHS. EVERYONE SEES A TO B BUT NO ONE SEES ANYTHING ELES. ITS NOT ALWAYS THE TRUCKER DRIVERS FAULT..YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT ASSUME. I THINK EVERYONE WANTING A DRIVERS LICENSE SHOULD TAKE A CLASS ON DRIVING A TRUCK THEN MAYBE THOSE OF YOU THAT WANT TO PLAY WITH BIG TRUCKS WILL HAVE A NEW RESPECT FOR THE TRUCK AND THE DRIVER..SO THE NEXT TIME YOU SEE A BIG TRUCK THINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE OR SHE MAYBE HAULING UP TO 80000 LBS AND WE CAN’T STOP ON A DIME. STOP AND SMELL THE ROSES AND STOP TRYING TO CRUSH THEM….TRUCK DRIVERS AR PROFESSIONALS

Don’t see anything about a big rig in this article, is that information from the other news website? I do agree with most of your comments about people not understanding the physics of a tractor trailer and the need for drivers to give them some room.
