AZLE (CBSDFW.COM) – Residents living in Azle are still boiling their drinking water after a water main break over the weekend.

The break, that happened Saturday morning, dropped water pressure significantly and prompted a boil water notice.

“There was a 16-inch water line break, out in a kind of deserted area of town, in a creek bed,” explained Azle City Manager Rick White.

White said the main concern is there could be harmful bacteria in the water and it’s better to err on the side of caution. “It’s not very probable in this case. The system wasn’t open that long, but you’re always better safe than sorry,” he said. “You issue a boil water notice so no one get sick, because one person’s always too many.”

The weekend water line break isn’t the first such incident in Azle. “We had one a year ago that was on another section of town, on the same size of line, there was a break in that line and we had an issue with some valves.”

Monday morning White said the line had been repaired and the system flushed out, but the boil notice remained for the 11,000 residents of Azle.

White said the boil water notice wouldn’t be rescinded until water tests results are received. Those results could be in by Monday afternoon.
