MINERAL WELLS (CBSDFW.COM) – A 2-year-old girl is in a Fort Worth hospital, and police are searching for a car following a hit & run accident in Mineral Wells Thursday morning.

The 2-year-old, identified as Alyssia Doyle, stepped off the curb in front of her house on Northeast 10th Street and was run over by a passing car.  She was taken to Cook Children’s Medical Center, where she’s being treated in the ICU.

The accident happened around 11:30 Thursday morning.

Mineral Wells police chief Mike McAllester says the driver never stopped, but fled after dragging the child roughly 50 feet.  He says the child was critically injured.

Family members tells CBSDFW Alyssia had just stepped off the curb when she was hit. “Her mother was right behind her!  The car was speeding and hit her,” her great-grandfather Donald MacPhail said.

The family says Alyssia has a bruised kidney, a bruised left lung and two concussions, and is expected to have surgery Friday morning.

Police say they’re looking for a dull gray or silver sedan or small car with damage to the right front.  They have no exact description of the driver.

Mineral Wells police ask that if anyone has any information on the driver to call (940) 328-7770.
