BASTROP (AP) - Firefighters have contained 75 percent of the wildfires that have scorched a Central Texas county since Labor Day weekend.
The Texas Forest Service on Thursday said more than 34,000 acres have been blackened in Bastrop County.
Spokeswoman April Saginor told The Associated Press that the weather outlook for the next few days is encouraging across Texas, with the possibility of rain. The National Weather Service says the forecast for the Bastrop area includes a 20 percent chance of showers on Sunday.
Nearly 1,600 homes have been destroyed in the Bastrop County wildfires. Saginor says the cause of the wildfires remains under investigation.
