FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - It’s happened again. Someone pointed a laser at a plane over North Texas. It happened Tuesday night over Fort Worth.
“An American Airlines flight was headed west, out of the DFW area, whenever it was hit by a green laser, about seven miles northwest of Fort Worth Meacham Airport,” explained FAA Spokesman Lynn Lunsford.
Lunsford said laser incidents are dangerous and becoming all too frequent. “Somewhere in the U.S. every night these events occur. We’ve had four of them alone this week in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.”
Laser pointing is considered a serious safety issue that can put people’s lives in danger.
“A lot of people may think that this is a fun thing to do,” said Lunsford, “but as far as the FAA is concerned anytime someone shines a laser at an airplane you’re potentially putting lives at risk.”
Police are still trying to find the person responsible for the incident on Tuesday.
Fines of up to $11,000 and jai time await anyone convicted for shining a laser at an aircraft.
