AUSTIN (AP) The Texas Longhorns are 4-2 at the midway point of their rebuilding project.
That’s the same record they had after six games last season, when they fell apart on their way to a 5-7 finish. The Longhorns are unranked after two straight losses and start five freshmen on an offense that has barely averaged two touchdowns the last two games.
Yet coach Mack Brown says he is optimistic that this team is an upward trend and won’t collapse again.
Texas is off this week before playing Kansas at home on Oct. 29 with a chance to end a five-game home losing streak in Big 12 play.
Brown would not commit to keeping freshman David Ash as his starting quarterback, saying the position remains open between Ash and Case McCoy.
