AUSTIN (AP) The Texas Longhorns seem determined to keep a quarterback controversy alive.
Despite starting freshman David Ash the last two games, Texas coach Mack Brown refuses to name Ash his clear No. 1 quarterback over Case McCoy.
Texas plays Texas Tech on Saturday. Brown says if the game were today, he’d probably start Ash, but says that could change depending on how they practice.
Ash is 1-1 with a home loss to Oklahoma State and last week’s 43-0 win over Kansas.
McCoy started three games and went 2-1 with wins at UCLA and Iowa State. McCoy hasn’t taken a meaningful snap since starting a 55-17 loss to Oklahoma.
McCoy didn’t play against Oklahoma State and didn’t play against Kansas until late in the third quarter.
