WATCHING MONDAY FOR WINTRY PRECIPITATION POTENTIAL…

As we have been mentioning on CBS 11 for the past several days, there is the possibility of wintry precip for parts of North Texas Monday.  The very latest forecast model runs from our computers indicate that the potential for a mix bag of precip is increasing.  Before I get into detail about Monday, let’s first talk about tonight and our weekend.

TONIGHT…

There has been a big difference it temperatures this afternoon across the area.  South and east of Dallas temperatures have warmed into the 60s.  In fact at 3pm the temps looked like this.

This big difference in temperatures is thanks to that stalled out front draped right over Dallas most of the day.  There has been some dense fog right along the front.  If you are behind the front this evening, expect more of the same.  Cloudy skies, fog and drizzle.  East of the front, still a small chance of a little light rain but not nearly as dreary.

OVERNIGHT…

The stationary front will retreat to the west overnight and temperatures will probably warm a couple of degrees overnight into the low 50s by Saturday morning.  Spotty rain will be possible during the morning but the better rain chances arrive Saturday afternoon into the evening.

SATURDAY…

Temperatures will be rather mild as the front retreats west.  We will see highs in the 60s even upper 60s Saturday afternoon before a strong cold front arrives.  Rain will be likely Saturday evening thru Saturday night with a few isolated thunderstorms possible.
SATURDAY NIGHT…
Temperatures will be falling to around 50 degrees for daybreak Sunday with scattered showers continuing overnight.

SUNDAY…

Off and on rain all day Sunday with temperatures staying in the 40s all day.

SUNDAY NIGHT…

Rain will continue thru the night with temperatures dropping into the upper 30s by Monday morning.

MONDAY MORNING…

The way things look now, temperatures will be in the upper 30s here in the metroplex.  There will be pockets of heavy rain moving thru.  These pockets of rain could produce sleet and rain.  The roads if temperatures stay in the upper 30s will just be wet and not slick.  There will be a strong NW wind blowing all day with gusts up to 35 mph.  So it will feel like it is in the 20s most of the day.  The feel of air will make it seem like it is freezing, but surface temperatures should stay above freezing for the start of the morning.  If the cold air arrives faster, or the precipitation is heavier, we could see more of a wintry mix in the morning.  I do think there will be a wintry mix in our far northwestern counties.

MONDAY NOON…

Temperatures will be in the 30s and just above freezing in Dallas/Fort Worth, but the freezing line will be getting closer and we will start to see a changeover to sleet/snow and less freezing rain in our northwestern counties.

MONDAY 5:00PM…

It looks like the wintry mix will arrive in DFW area during the afternoon into the evening.  It will likely be a sleet/snow mix with some accumulation possible if the precip is heavy enough and lasts thru the evening and night.

MONDAY NIGHT…
The precipitation will start to taper off.  Temperatures will drop into the upper 20s so any left precip will likely be in the form of sleet and snow.  Also, any moisture on the roads will likely freeze for the Tuesday morning commute.

TUESDAY…
Temperatures will stay in the 30s all day with high clouds moving thru.  Could see a few flurries, but nothing significant.
