DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) – After a whirlwind 24 hours that saw Dwight Howard reportedly destined for ‘Ew Jersey (spelling intended), and then to the Lakers for a package that included the trade exception Dallas had sent to Los Angeles for Lamar Odom, it appears the market is dying down.  At least for now.   Howard staying put.

The worldwide leader in sexual harassment reported today (or more likely just stole from one of their competitors again) the Magic are not planning on trading him.

Plus, Howard himself sounds re-energized about moving forward in Orlando.

If it is meant for me to stay here, I’ll stay,” Howard said.

“I love this city. There is no place I’d rather be but Orlando. I just want to make sure we have the right things here so we can win a championship. I’m all about change. If you’re willing to change and you’re willing to do what it takes to win then, you know, you got me.”

The reason this is so awesome for the Mavericks is three fold.

1-Keeping Howard out of ‘Ew Jersey keeps Deron Williams in play.  D-Will to DFW!

2-Going to Los Angeles would create a helluva force to butt heads with in future finals even if you do get Williams.

3-PAY OFF PITCH ALERT!  Dwight Howard has the Lakers, Nets, and Dallas on his list of teams he’d like to be traded to.   Seeing as how Jersey and L.A. have both made their best offer for now, it’s likely Howard and the Magic both want to wait to see what what the Mavericks can do with more time to put together a trade package or free agent offer.

Before you roll your eyes, consider the Mavericks are already set to be significantly under the cap by about 20 million, and could clear another 12 mill by going amnesty clause up side Brendan Haywood’s head and using the under-reported Stretch provision to jettison Shawn Marion.

Are you ready for Mavericks vs. Heat in the finals, version 3,4,5,6.7….??

If this plan comes together the only things that will be able to stop that matchup from happening over and over are the Bulls and Knicks.
