TODAY IS THE FIRST FULL DAY OF WINTER AND IT WILL FEEL LIKE IT LATER TONIGHT
TURNING SHARPLY COLDER AND WINDY TONIGHT
A cold front has been working its way across North Texas during the afternoon. Temperatures have already fallen into the 30s & 40s in our far northwestern corner and that chilly air is headed south over all of North Texas overnight. Look for temperatures to fall into the mid to upper 30s by morning with a breezy north wind up to 25 mph. Wind chills will be in the 20s overnight and Friday morning.
Clouds will also increase tonight and we may have a few areas of very light rain and/or sprinkles over North Texas. Not expecting a lot of wet weather tonight or tomorrow. The air will be cold enough for a few light flurries in our far western counties late tonight, but no accumulation.
STAYING CHILLY FRIDAY
Clouds will hang around most of the day Friday. The chilly north wind will also continue but lighten up a bit during the day. Look for high temps only near 44° in the Metroplex. It will stay in the 30s in our western counties. Rain chances look very slim and anything that falls will be sprinkles at best.
CHANCE OF LIGHT WINTRY MIX CHRISTMAS EVE
The upper air system that is responsible for the chilly air moving into our area will be slow to move but will send out a disturbance on Saturday to increase our precipitation chances during the day Saturday. We are forecasting a dry morning, but wet weather afternoon. Temperatures will be above freezing at the surface, but aloft it will be cold enough for a little snow mixed in with the rain…mainly west of I-35. Therefore, travel issues are not anticipated, aside from just wet roads because of the rain. Look for possibly up to 1” of snowfall in our far western counties…out toward Graham, Breckenridge & Eastland by Saturday night…primarily on grassy areas and roof tops.
Temperatures in the Metroplex on Saturday should reach 42° for highs…w/ temps in the 30s west of I-35. Temperatures Christmas Eve night will fall into the mid 30s.
WET CHRISTMAS MORNING
We’ll have a few cold rain showers lingering for Sunday morning, but look for the rain to end before your Christmas lunch. We’ll see more clouds than sunshine on Christmas with high temperatures still on the chilly side..in the upper 40s.
