Texas Troops Heading To Africa

SEAGOVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) – About 100 Texas National Guard soldiers are heading to Africa Friday afternoon.

They’re going to the Horn of Africa as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.  It’s actually a part of the war in Afghanistan, but it’s focused on stopping terrorism and piracy in that part of northeastern Africa.

The men and women of the Texas National Guard’s Alpha Troop leave from Seagoville at 1 p.m. Friday.

Although I think this sounds like a wonderful effort, I can’t help but wonder why Americans pump so much hard earned taxpayer money into other countries when we get nothing in return. Every major earthquake, flood, etc., we are always there to help pick up the pieces. Yet when we were struck with Katrina and other disasters, where was OUR help from these countries including industrial nations like Japan? Why do American’s feel so responsible for the world that only wants something for nothing from us?
