DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – A pedestrian was killed when she walked in front of a Dallas Police squad car at about 3 a.m. Sunday, department spokesman Warren Mitchell said.
Beverly Kirk, 43, tried to cross the street in the 9900 block of Bruton Road in between an ambulance and a marked patrol car, which was responding to a disturbance call on Oak Branch Road.
While the ambulance had its lights and siren on, Mitchell said the officer did not “because it is not required for this particular call assignment.”
Kirk died at the scene. Mitchell did not identify the officer and said the department would not comment further until an investigation is finished.
The department’s accident report listed Kirk as homeless and said she “failed to yield the right of way” to the police officer.
Mitchell did not identify the policeman driving the squad car.
