SANGER (CBSDFW.COM) – Country superstar Randy Travis is in trouble for allegedly being drunk in public.

Sanger police arrested Travis early Monday morning and charged him with public intoxication.

Sanger Police Chief Curtis Amyx said an officer first noticed a suspicious car. “At 12:04 a.m. a Sanger officer drove up to 708 S. 5th Street, which is the First Baptist Church, and he noticed a vehicle parked in the parking lot.”

Travis was the only person inside the vehicle and reportedly had slurred speech. Chief Amyx said the officer then, “Noticed an open bottle of wine in the passenger side of the vehicle.”

The 52-year-old singer was booked in the Denton County Jail and has since been released.

Travis, who lives in nearby Tioga, is one of the biggest names in country music.

Police said they aren’t sure how the singer got to the church, but that there was no evidence of drunk driving.

Has any corporation considered purchasing advertising space on his forehead?

Nah, he don’t need the cash.

I’m glad he’s grown his hair out and had the bolts in his neck removed.

I hope it didn’t damage his ability to sing through his nose.

    No matter who we are,
No matter how famous (or infamous),
No matter what we have done good or not so good,
We all are just people struggling to get along in life.
Give the man some space. He has some troubles you don’t know about, and of which you do not have. He has his breaks; you do, too. He has his pains, he has his pleasures, his highs and his lows…just like us all.

He hasn’t harmed anyone. Leave him be and let the law deal with him.
He was in a church parking lot. Perhaps we just wanted some private time with Jesus. There is no harm or shame in that. Let God do the judging. We need to just show a little compassion and deal with our own demons and let him deal with his. Doubt you would like the general public to see all of your dirty laundry, would you?

      Correction:
“Perhaps HE just wanted some private time with Jesus”.

      Pardon.

Maybe it was god who sent the police to shame him into dealing with an obvious problem.

No kidding. DRUNK in a church parking lot?!

  4. Helen Hevener says:

How many times have I heard Randy Travis get up and give a testimony about how he is a “born again Christian”!!! This is the same man who left his wife for his denitist’s secretary!!! Makes me sick to hear someone get up and prattle on about how changed they are- hide under the name of Christianity when they are no better or even worse than other people. People like Randy Travis are nothing more than hypocrites!!!!

    1. DDR says:

I agree. He should become a preacher of a megachurch. He’d fit right in.

    2. Shannon Massie says:

How does his being tipsy in a parking lot constitute a bad person or Christian? That has nothing to do with this but someone is always looking to talk bad about someone instead of support them for trying to be a better person? It sounds like you are on the fence and just want to judge from your perch. What do you believe in? Nothing? People?

  5. Chuck says:

Why didnt the police take him home,, no need to arrest and humiliate him since he has given many fund raising concerts… the Chief just wanted his name in the paper…

Anyone not rich and famous caught behind the wheel of a car(driving or not) with an open bottle next to them, there would have been a different outcome.

  8. Dennis Teel says:

you posters who are being insulting are obviously little twenty year old somethings with nothing but a smartass attitude and mouth/why don’t you do something important and apply for work somewhere/.maybe having a job will mature you some.

  9. ZonaJim says:

We’re all human, and we all sin. Randy apparently has a problem with alcohol and he’ll have to deal with it. I pray that he’ll get the help he needs. Those of you here with your petty little jabs at him might want to examine the failings in your own life first.

  10. Margaret Lynn says:

The ones making the jabs, bad.
The ones telling the ones making the jabs to examine their own failures in life first, also bad.
People just don’t get it, including Mr. Travis.
Today you are flying high, but like the angels in Satans band, tomorrow you fall, as we all do, sooner or later.
Better to learn how to walk on water before thinking that, half way to perfection, means we get to tell others what is what and how they should live. Christians all too often bring the ridicule on themeslves with their religious nonsense that really has nothing to do with the real teachings of Jesus anyway.

whos car was he in ?most states it is D.W.I parked or not, what do you mean no drunk driving, who drove whos car.money talkes and broke people get charged to the max

    1. Me says:

maybe he drove there and started drinking. No way to prove that he drove while intoxicated so they can’t charge him with it.

  12. woodNfish says:

Maybe the article heading should be “Assh0le cop arrests citizen minding his own business”.

    1. Denhunter says:

Man, that’s the truth. And the cop kept saying ‘ Since you don’t have ID, I don’t know who you are’. Sure he didn’t. The guy is the biggest celebrity in the county. The cop was baiting him, trying to get him to say ‘; I am Randy Travis’, so he could claim Travis was trying to throw his name around. Travis didn’t bite. All the cop had to do was run the plate. He was just being a prick, trying to get his face on TV.

  13. Breze says:

Jesus turned the water into wine!
