FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - One man is dead and another person was injured during a fiery car crash in north Fort Worth early Tuesday morning. The incident happened at about 2:15 a.m. at the intersection of Loop 820 and Interstate-35W, a busy traffic area that is already under extensive construction.
According to officials with the Fort Worth Police Department, the car — a 1990s model Chevrolet Capris — hopped over a guardrail along Loop 820, went off the road and rolled onto a concrete embankment under the Interstate-35W overpass, coming to a rest against a support pillar and catching on fire. One man was pronounced dead on the scene while the other victim was transported to a local hospital. There has been no word yet on that person’s condition.
Police investigators were on the scene trying to determine what may have caused the crash, but further details — including the names of the two victims — have not been released.
The westbound lanes of Loop 820 were closed for hours while authorities conducted an investigation and crews cleaned up the scene. The highway was re-opened to traffic at about 7:00 a.m. and everything is running smoothly once again.
