FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – Robert Griffin III will need to pack a big suitcase when he travels to Indianapolis for the NFL Combine –– he’ll need one that can hold both his Heisman Trophy and Davey O’Brien Award.
Griffin was in Fort Worth Monday evening to pick up his Davey O’Brien Award as the top quarterback in the country.
The quarterback from Baylor has created an impressive resume.
RG3 was the first player in Baylor history to win the Heisman Trophy, now he wants to prove that he deserves to be the overall No. 1 selection in the NFL Draft this April.
“You always want to be the best at whatever you do, and if that means going number 1, then that’s the process.” Griffin said. “Whether I go number one, or not, it won’t affect who I am, the confidence that I have, or the fact that I believe I am the best quarterback in this draft.”
Griffin will get his next chance to try to become the top pick in the draft when he meets with NFL General Managers at the combine. Most of the “experts” are projecting Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck to be the top pick by the Indianapolis Colts.
“We both want to be the best, we both want to be No. 1. Whether I get drafted first or not, it’s not going to change the way I play,” Griffin said. “All I can say, it’s about motivation. You never want to feel like everybody thinks you’re a sure thing in life because it can rob you of your motivation to go out and get better.”
Besides collecting trophies as the best football player in the nation, RG3 also collects socks.
Griffin showed off his footwear Monday night at the Davey O’Brien Awards. The bright blue socks had eyes, and a mouth.
“It’s just a beast. His mouth’s open, ready to eat. Taking on anybody trying to challenge him,” he said.
It will be interesting to watch Griffin take on all challengers, as he said he’s ready to prove he’s the best ‘beast’ on the board for the NFL Draft.
