MCALLEN, Texas (AP) - U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano is to spend a second day reviewing Customs and Border Protection operations in the Rio Grande Valley.
Napolitano is expected to visit multiple sites Tuesday and address the media at the McAllen Border Patrol station Tuesday afternoon.
The former Arizona governor arrived in McAllen on Monday and met with CBP officials to discuss operations at the ports of entry. She was also scheduled to meet with representatives of state and local law enforcement agencies. Acting CBP Commissioner David Aguilar who is from the area accompanied Napolitano.
Last week, a coalition of Texas border mayors, county administrators and economic development agencies criticized Obama’s latest budget proposal for not including enough money to upgrade operations at border ports of entry.
