Fort Worth Cop Fired For Searching Porn At Work

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – A Fort Worth police captain has been fired after investigators found the officer had been using his city-issued computer to search porn sites.

The captain, L.A. Harris, has also been accused of self-gratification while on duty in a city facility and in uniform.

Harris had been assigned as one of two overnight duty captains. An internal affairs investigation found Harris had visited the sites while on duty over a six month period.

In a statement, Chief Jeff Halstead called Harris’ behavior “absolutely deplorable.”

Harris was a 22-year veteran of the Fort Worth Police Department. He had been made captain last June.

    While I’m a big proponent of informing residents of what happens within their city, police and fire departments… I’m fairly certain this one didn’t have to be publicized.
    Yes.. it was stupid. Yes… it’s embarrassing. Yes.. he needed to be gone.

    But publicizing it? His “self gratification” at work… seriously? We needed to know this? I think if FW really felt the need to let our local TV stations and newspapers in on this action – it probably should have been more along the lines of:
    “Local police officer fired for inappropriate conduct on duty. Authorities wouldn’t elaborate on the exact cause for his dismissal… except to say his actions were detrimental to the department.”
    That should have been the end of it. I doubt any of CBS’s viewers would have noticed the difference.. or even cared.
    But now – thanks to this wonderful tidbit of news – I have the image of a police officer working behind the computer with his pants around his ankles.
