Crime Spree Murderer Sentenced To Death

CLEBURNE (CBSDFW.COM) – The man convicted earlier this month of killing a woman as part of an eight-day crime spree is headed to Texas’ death row.

A jury deliberated just one hour before sentencing Mark Anthony Soliz to death.

Earlier in March the jury convicted Soliz of killing a 61-year-old Godley woman at her house.

Prosecutors said the murder was one of two Soliz committed during an eight-day crime spree in June, 2010.

Soliz was also accused of killing a beer delivery man outside a Fort Worth convenience store, although he has not been tried for that murder.

Prosecutors say the crime spree included three other shootings, a carjacking, and several thefts and burglaries.

The Cleburne Times-Review reports during the punishment phase of the trial, Johnson County jailers testified that Soliz caused trouble while locked up there.

This is the first death penalty case tried in Johnson County in 16 years, prosecutors said.
