DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Edward Ramsey may not have seen his 11-year-old grandson, Johnathan, in as long as a year. He wouldn’t talk on camera about it because he had done one interview already and said, “God could use that one interview.”

After reporting his grandson’s suspicious absence to the police, authorities launched an investigation. They believe Johnathan is dead and have charged his father and stepmother with injury to a child.

Edward Ramsey is a religious man. He doesn’t like television. He said he hadn’t had a television set in his home in eight years.

Ramsey said he’s involved in pastoral care at his church Friendship Baptist. He also works part time fixing small machines.

He said he took Johnathan to church with him with The boy was nine years old. Ramsey said he’s glad he did that because now Ramsey knows the boy is in a better place.

He only hopes something good will come out of all of this. He’s relying on his faith.

Police believe the boy is dead. So far, no word on the whereabouts of the boy’s remains. Police searched an area Saturday, south of Ennis about eight miles from the boy’s great grandparents’ home. It’s a wooded area near the corner of Ensign and Sandwitch Roads.

As many as 50 police officers searched the area on foot. No word on what they found, if anything. The boy had not been seen in as long as a year.

Edward Ramsey is asking for prayers for himself and for his family.

very sad..this seems to be happening all over the nation..on a daily basis we hear of this child missing or that child abducted or that child who is beaten and dies..what is wrong with people..if having a child is a problem, either dont have one or give the child to a relative who does care, such as this boys grandfather…

My heart breaks for this boy. I got a sick feeling in my stomache when I saw this tonight on the 10:00 news.
What a slow painful, lonely way to die.

I hope and pray Johnathon is in a better place. I have children and know the innocence of a child that age. How may other children are out there who have no voice but are dying and suffering abuse every day?
    So, so, so sad.
