DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) –Former NBA coach Larry Brown is scheduled to arrive in Dallas on Sunday to interview with SMU for its men’s head basketball coaching vacancy, sources confirmed to CBS 11 Sports reporter Gina Miller.
The 71-year old Brown has coached for nine NBA teams, most recently the Charlotte Bobcats in the 2010-2011 season. Brown coached the Detroit Pistons to an NBA championship in 2004, making him the only coach who has won both NBA and NCAA titles.
He led the University of Kansas to a national championship in the 1987-88 season.
SMU fired Matt Dougherty last month. He went 80-109 in six seasons on the hilltop. The school is moving from Conference USA to the Big East, an incredibly tough basketball conference, in the 2013-14 season. The Mustangs haven’t made the NCAA tournament since 1993.
