If you haven’t heard the heartwrenching news, Justice the four-month-old puppy who was tortured almost two weeks ago has passed away. Around 9pm on April 4th, police responded to a call that a puppy had been burned at an apartment complex in Pleasant Grove. When they arrived, officers saw a group of male teenagers laughing as they scattered away on foot. Witnesses say one of the suspects tried to strangle this poor puppy with rope before the dog escaped and ran– smoking– to safety. Officers reported smelling singed hair and flesh at the crime scene. One witness said the puppy was doused with lighter fluid before being set on fire. Thankfully, a female neighbor tried to extinguish the flames with a shirt and bottle of water. The group watched and laughed before fleeing the scene.

Dallas Animal Services picked up the dog and turned him over to DFW Rescue Me who made sure he was treated by emergency veterinarians. They named him Justice, hoping the awful people who did this would be brought to justice. Justice had second and third degree burns over 70% of his body. He was transferred to Texas A&M Small Animal Hospital. Some of his tissue became infected, and unfortunately doctors weren’t able to keep his blood pressure up.

Justice passed away Friday evening.

There is an ongoing investigation. Dallas Police are looking for more facts and hope to find the hoodlums who did this. If you have any information, please call Crimestoppers at 214.373.8477. There is a $5000 reward for information leading up to the arrests. If you see these kids or their classmates referencing this on Facebook, don’t hesitate to call DPD. Every minor detail can help. We’ll keep you posted on the progress.

You can also donate to The Justice Fund at DFW Rescue Me benefitting abused doggies. Just type “Justice Fund” in the Special Instructions field. There’s a memorial service being planned, and I will have details soon.

I’m sure you are as angry as I am after hearing this terrible story. As much as I would love to see the punks who did this burn the same way Justice did, the best we can hope is that they get locked up for ten years (maximum penalty). We need your help finding them first. Please keep spreading the word of his story, and hopefully a brave person will come forward with information.

Do it for Justice.
