PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) – A motorcyclist who was stopped by a DPS trooper chose to flee early Wednesday morning, triggering a chase that ended near Independence Parkway and Legacy Drive when the cyclist hit a curb and crashed.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Lonny Haschel said a trooper attempted to pull the cyclist over for an expired license plate just after 1:15 a.m.

The driver fled when the trooper turned on his emergency lights. The pursuit started near the Sam Rayburn Tollway frontage road and Preston Road, Haschell said. The cyclist headed south on Coit Road and turned east on Legacy Drive.

He crashed at near Independence Parkway. Haschel said the trooper called paramedics, who transported the man to Medical Center of Plano with non-life threatening injuries. The pursuit lasted “two or three minutes,” Haschel said.

The cyclist, who has not been identified, will be charged with evading law enforcement.
