NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) – A limited amount of funds has become available for the 2012 AirCheckTexas Drive a Clean Machine Program.

The program, run through the North Central Texas Council of Governments, offers financial assistance to help the owners of older Texas vehicles comply with emissions standards. Those qualifying could receive financial incentives to repair or replace vehicles.

The North Central Texas Region of the program is offering assistance for vehicles registered in Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, or Tarrant County.

If your car or truck has failed a state emissions test in the last 30 days and/or is more than 10 years old there is repair and replacement assistance available.

If an individual meets all of the conditions, including income requirements, vouchers for up to $600 toward repairs and replacement vouchers up to $3,500 are available.

If a replacement voucher is issued Jason Brown, with AirCheckTexas, explained, “Their current vehicle they would be retiring and it would ultimately crushed and removed from the road.”

Vehicles must be registered and currently in working condition, since the program is meant to help address vehicles that are currently an air quality concern.

Program applications can only be submitted by fax or mail, are first-come first-serve, and are processed in the order received.
