RICHLAND HILLS (CBSDFW.COM) - Police say an eight-year-old student took a loaded pistol to his elementary school today.
The child attends Richland Elementary School.
In a news release, police spokesman Sgt. Nathan Stringer says the boy took the gun from his mother’s boyfriend last night. When officers asked the second grader why he took it to school, he said, “I don’t know.” Police also asked the boy if he felt that he needed protection, but he said he did not.
Stringer says the boy was trying to put the gun in his desk and dropped it. Other students saw the pistol and told the teacher.
Stringer says no charges will be filed against the boy because of his age. Charges are possible against the child’s mother and her boyfriend for allowing the child to have access to the gun.
No one was hurt.
