Little Girl Loses Fingertip At Houston School

HOUSTON (AP) – A Houston mother is irate at her 5-year-old daughter’s private school after the child lost the tip of her pinky in a screw hole on a schoolyard sign.

Naomi Ryland tells KRIV-TV of Houston that her daughter, Katricia Harmon was playing during recess at Yellowstone Academy last week when she stuck her finger in the screw hole. Another student then turned the sign with Katricia’s finger still in it, taking a third of her pinky with it.

Ryland says the school didn’t call 911 or provide any help with her child’s medical bills.

School principal Cherie Singleton tells the station that she hopes to meet with Ryland to discuss the matter and Katricia’s medical bills, and to inspect playground equipment more often.
