DALLAS (1080 KRLD) – A man in a motorized wheelchair had to be rescued from a creek at Pecan Grove Park after his granddaughter accidentally shifted the chair into reverse, causing it to careen into the water.
Dallas Fire Rescue spokesman Jason Evans says a man was driving the wheelchair with his young granddaughter on his lap when the accident occurred.
The man managed to get to the embankment, but rescue workers still had to use a basket to fish the man out of the creek, which is near Cockrell Hill Rd. and Kiest Blvd.
Evans said authorities had a tough time finding their footing on the slippery creek bank.
Dallas Fire Rescue has not released the name or age of the man or his granddaughter.
The girl was able to jump off the wheelchair before it rolled into the water, Evans said.
