NEW YORK (AP) – The Mongolian government and a Dallas-based auction house have agreed to cooperate to try to resolve their dispute over a dinosaur fossil that was sold despite a court order.

A hearing set for Friday was canceled after a Dallas court extended a temporary restraining order.

According to court papers, Heritage Auctions has agreed to provide the Mongolian government all documents regarding the fossil’s provenance, including the identity of the buyer.

In the spirit of cooperation, Mongolia’s president will not contend that Heritage violated the TRO when it sold the Tarbosaurus skeleton in New York for more than $1 million on May 20.

The Tarbosaurus is a ‘cousin’ of the Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Mongolia’s president says it may belong to his country. Heritage says it was assured it was obtained legally.

Mongolian experts will inspect the fossil in New York on Tuesday.
