DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – A 29-year-old man remains in critical condition Sunday after he had to be rescued from inside a large flour mixer at a Dallas food plant.

Freddy Bermudez accidentally plunged into a large flour mixer Saturday afternoon at a Food Product Plant at 6000 Denton Dr. The device is used to make dough.

City of Dallas Emergency Medical Services Director Dr. Paul Pepe said the Urban Search and Reach Team had to remove Bermudez alongside Dallas Fire Rescue officials.

He was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital where a surgical team stood at the ready in case any emergency amputation was needed, Pepe said. Bermudez did not need surgery on the scene, although he was given blood and IV fluids.

He was immediately taken into surgery upon arriving at Parkland.

A day after the accident, Bermudez remains in critical condition. His family has declined to comment.
