FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price is recovering after a bike accident on Saturday. She was released from a local hospital after being treated for several injuries including a concussion and a broken collarbone. But she is not going to let the accident dampen her plans for a more bicycle-friendly Fort Worth.
Price was riding along a Fort Worth bike trail early Saturday morning. She was 20 miles into a 33-mile ride when she hit a patch of gravel and took a nasty spill. The fall knocked her unconscious. Price’s husband was with her on the bike ride, and he called 911. Along with a concussion and broken collarbone, Price received road rash and bruising.
The Mayor is crediting her bicycle helmet for saving her life, and plans to use her crash as a platform to push others to be safe.
Price said that she regularly bikes about 125 miles every week. She is known for holding weekly town hall bike rides with members of the Fort Worth community, and those meetups will continue with assistance from her staff. Price hopes to be back on her bike within four weeks.
As for returning to her office, Price is not sure if she will be able to resume work on Monday. She is hoping to see a specialist on Monday about her broken collarbone.
