ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) – Dave Barnett has been a play-by-play sports announcer for decades but it was a sudden, nonsensical episode during the 8th inning of the Texas Ranger’s game, against the San Diego Padres, that is now receiving nationwide attention.
During the broadcast on Fox Sports Southwest Barnett said, Go ahead run… is at 5th on what Adams is insisting on calling a botched robbery. What actually happened was his henchmen took piece literally out of…”
CBSDFW.COM has learned that sound engineers turned down Barnett’s microphone after a few seconds of his nonsensical episode.

Barnett finished calling the game without incident, but fans were left wondering what had happened.
The Texas Rangers said Barnett believes recurring migraine headaches may be to the blame for the incident and confirmed Barnett will be off the air for at least the next two games against the Padres in San Diego.
The statement from the Rangers said, in part, “He will undergo an evaluation over the next few days after experiencing on-air issues in the eighth inning of Monday’s game with what Barnett believes to be the recurrence of migraine headaches.”
“People don’t really know why it happens but people who have migraines can have neurological symptoms that mimic a stroke and sometimes it can be very, very difficult to tell the difference,” Methodist Dallas Medical Center neurologist Gregg Shalan explained. “A lot of times, the people are fully conscious that they can’t control their language the way they want to.”
Barnett took a bad fall in December and suffered a concussion, but it’s unclear if that incident and Monday night’s episode are related in any way.
Dr. Shalan said it’s important to get evaluated as soon as possible after such an episode as it may be the first sign of something much more serious.
Barnett will be under evaluation for the next few days.
