ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) – The Texas Rangers continue their winning ways while leading the American League West.
Texas went 5-2 in the last week and in the process won the series meetings against the Colorado Rockies and the Detroit Tigers. The Rangers have won six consecutive series.
And it really is a team effort.
All you have to do is look at the number of nominations for “Ranger Of The Week” made by CBS 11 and The Fan staff.
It is one of the rare times that there was not a consensus.
Pitchers Yu Darvish and Matt Harrison each got a vote for the simple fact that they are not on the disabled list. Colby Lewis joined fellow starting pitchers Derek Holland, Neftali Feliz and Alexi Ogando on the DL this week with forearm tendinitis.
Both Yu and Matt Harrison go into the weekend with a team high 10 wins, each.
After those votes, it’s all about the offense.
The Fan’s Jasmine was one of two people to place their vote for starting second baseman Ian Kinsler. “After last night (Texas defeated Oakland 7-6): four hits, scored three runs and stole two bases…gimme Kins,” said Jasmine.
And then there’s outfielder David Murphy. He received two votes. In 6 games, Murphy went 6 for 16 with 2 home runs and 7 RBI. During Wednesday’s game, Murphy raised his batting average by 16 points. “He’s hitting at a torrid pace, but he’s also hitting when clutch and despite the fact he doesn’t have a starting spot in the line-up,” observed CBS 11 reporter Joel Thomas.
Adrian Beltre also broke into the winner’s circle with two votes from the staff. The third baseman’s offensive output in the last seven days has been impressive. He batted .500 while leading the team with 13 hits for the week. Beltre also had a home run, 6 RBI and even had a bases loaded walk against Oakland last night to bring in a run.
“The bats are starting to wake back up,” remarked CBS 11 Technical Director Sam Jones as he voted for Beltre.
Speaking of bats, there is an honorable mention this week. And it comes from The Fan’s Sybil Summers.
“Can I vote for Hamilton’s Flying Bat? The 5th one only. Not 1-4 nor 6,” Sybil suggested.
Which Texas Ranger will break out of the pack during a new week of voting? You can watch tonight and make your own call.
Friday Night Baseball on TXA 21 starts at 6:30 tonight with Gina Miller and the Doctor Of Defense, Mark McLemore. First pitch for tonight’s game between the Oakland A’s and Texas Rangers is at 7:05 P.M. After the final out, keep it on TXA 21 for the post-game show with Gina and Mark.
