DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – The City of Dallas is ready to spend $25 million to give the Cotton Bowl a major facelift. Even though the stadium is full of history and nostalgia, big changes are coming. A possible new design is even being presented to city officials for approval.
The proposed plan would finish out the facade to completely wrap around the bowl, spruce up the concession stands, expand the coaches boxes and upgrade the press box. A city task force will be receive the new plans on Wednesday. Construction is expected to begin in January.
The mayor and city council believe that such an overhaul is vital to keep events — such as the Red River Rivalry game between the Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners — from leaving for other locations, and for drawing in new events.
