Dallas Schools To Get Gender Equality Training
DALLAS, Texas (AP) — Officials from the U.S. Department of Education have reached an agreement with the Dallas Independent School District requiring that district employees receive gender equality training after an investigation into a boys-only field trip to see a movie.
The Dallas Morning News reports the school district agreed to the training last week as a step toward ensuring that no more educational programs exclude students based on gender. The district spent $57,000 on the February field trip for the district’s 5th-grade boys to see “Red Tails,” about the legendary Tuskegee Airmen.
Many girls instead stayed in their schools and watched “Akeelah and the Bee,” a fictional story about a girl who competes in a spelling bee.
Principals and officials in the school leadership department will undergo training
