AUSTIN (AP) – A father killed in the massacre at a Colorado theater showing the new Batman movie will be laid to rest in his native Texas.
The funeral for Gordon Cowden is scheduled Friday at Riverbend Church in Austin, with burial in Austin Memorial Park. The 51-year-old businessman already has been mourned in Colorado.
Cowden had taken two of his children to the movie last Friday in Aurora, Colo., when shots rang out. The teens weren’t injured.
Cowden was the oldest of the 12 people killed in gunfire during “The Dark Knight Rises.” James Holmes is accused of the shootings that also wounded 58. His next court appearance is Monday in Colorado.
A memorial fund has been established for Cowden’s four children. Contributions can be made at any Chase Bank location.
