North Texas Ice Business Is “Hot”
DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) – As summertime Texas temperatures once again turn brutal, the places where you won’t hear any complaints are area ice companies!
“The hotter it gets, the more ice we sell!”, says a laughing Earl Toler with Emergency Ice in West Dallas.
Toler says once the temperature hits 100 degrees, it is “all hands on deck.” The company even increases staff by about 50% to keep up with the summertime demand. “Right now, we’re at full capacity,” says Toler.
The ice machines at the West Dallas company now run 24 hours a day. And it might be one of the few places in town where you won’t hear anyone growing weary of the super-hot weather. After all, for ice companies, the hot weather translates into cool hard cash. And ice in Texas, is apparently recession proof.
“That’s the good thing about ice,” says Toler, “no matter what, if it’s hot outside people need it. It doesn’t matter what the economy is doing. The hotter it gets the more ice we sell.”
An undeniably jubilant Toler told us that the only downside is that it’s tough making friends when he goes around absolutely giddy about the scorching summer temperatures.
