Seth MacFarlane To Host Oscars Ceremony
LOS ANGELES (CBS NEWS) - “Family Guy” creator Seth MacFarlane has been chosen to host the 2013 Academy Awards ceremony.
Oscars telecast producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron made the announcement Monday. This will be MacFarlane’s first time hosting the awards.
“It’s truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars,” MacFarlane said in a news release announcing him as host. “My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don’t find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast.”
Zadan and Meron added, “We are thrilled to have Seth MacFarlane host the Oscars. His performing skills blend perfectly with our ideas for making the show entertaining and fresh. He will be the consummate host, and we are so happy to be working with him.”
MacFarlane is best known for his animated TV shows “Family Guy” and “American Dad.” He made his directorial debut earlier this year with the comedy “Ted,” which brought in more than $420 million worldwide at the box office, and also hosted “Saturday Night Live” last month.
The 85th Academy Awards telecast will be broadcast live on February 24.
