FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Have you ever used Facebook to go shopping? Two Fort Worth women are using the social network as a way to manage their life as wives and mothers and have a job where they call all the shots.
They call it the Jewelry Nut Auction.
Meredith Miner and Victoria Wise had taken time off work to be stay at home moms.
What started as a hobby in Meredith’s playroom/home office is the full-time job that became Jewelry Nut Auction. “With her background in jewelry design and my background and business we said, ‘let’s do this,’” said Meredith.
It’s one of the first auction concepts ever on Facebook. The first to comment on the jewelry of the day can purchase the pieces. It’s open bidding, first come – first served.
In a little over a year the site has received over 30,000 likes. It’s become successful enough to hire 10 people.
“We sought out to get the best designer – and designer inspired jewelry to get to our Facebook friends and fans as we started gaining,” said Victoria
The secret has also been in combining a great relationship with hard work. It’s meant longer nights and more carpooling. Today they are mommies to a combined seven children under age five.
Supportive husbands help immensely, and a schedule is key. It’s something many moms are on a quest for — a creative outlet and a system that works.
The pair just launched an offshoot of their Facebook auctions called Style Nut. It will feature auctions of clothing and home furnishings on the Jewelry Nut Facebook page.
