DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A controversial administrator in the Dallas Independent School District resigned Friday, then rescinded the resignation, and said she would retire instead.
Shirley Ison-Newsome has been with DISD for 37 years, and is now an assistant superintendent. She has also recently been the focus of a number of investigations relating to the spending of taxpayer money.
She told Superintendent Mike Miles Friday that she was resigning, effective immediately. However Miles says she called him again later in the day and took back her resignation, saying she would set a retirement date instead.
Miles had no comment on her decision, and declined to respond to reports that he had asked her to step down.
So far as can be determined Ison-Newsome has not yet set that retirement date.
