FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – With 97 percent of the precincts reporting, Democrat Wendy Davis is claiming a win for Texas State Senate, District 10, with a more than five-thousand vote lead over Republican challenger Dr. Mark Shelton.
Millions of dollars were spent in this highly contested race, which would have given Republicans a super majority in the state senate, had Shelton won.
There was no shortage of attack ads on either side of this campaign.
Davis told CBS 11 on election day, “It seems I’ve never come down an easy road,” for her campaigns.
She raised more than $3.6 million to keep the seat she won in a surprise defeat over a Republican four years ago.
Dr. Mark Shelton, a pediatrician, spent $2.5 million on his campaign, focusing on the economy and jobs.
He told CBS 11 on election day, “Turning around this economy where our families and businesses are doing better and expanding the wealth of the country and we’ll have plenty of money to pay for everything we need to do.”
