GREENVILLE (CBS 11 NEWS) – Police, searching for a missing Greenville teenager are also investigating the gruesome discovery of a body near Wills Point.
A road construction worker found the body inside a trunk alongside FM 47 about four miles north of Wills Point in Van Zandt County.
The Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Department would only say the body was that of an African American female.
So, while many people gathered to watch election results Tuesday night, family and friends of a missing Greenville girl gathered to pray.
“Lord, we just ask for your peace once again and your comfort,” one woman prayed.
They’re also praying for answers. Where 16-year-old Alicia Moore? She’s been missing since Friday.
Her aunt, Jessica Byrd, said, “She got off the bus at 3:35. That picture on the flyer is the last time we seen her.”
Byrd said Greenville police chief told her in person about the body found in the trunk.
“That made my sister break down a little bit. And then he was asking about her braces,” Byrd said.
The family says, Alicia is quiet and not the kind to run away.
“I just been nervous, pacing the corner thinking I’m going to see her come around this corner any moment now,” Byrd said.
Byrd says the family is frustrated.
They believe police only began a serious investigation into missing person report Monday.
Police also told her their report had listed the girl as a runaway.
“She didn’t run away. I just know it. All her favorite clothes are here. None of her clothes are missing,” Byrd said.
The family says they’re tired of waiting. They hope to have some answers soon.
“Why put us through another wait?” Byrd asked.
